We know it’s “racist” to talk about Rev. Jeremiah Wright, but somehow this news from former San Francisco mayor Willie  Brown seems newsworthy:

If Obama looks as if he’s going black, he could turn off white people. So he’s largely been lying low on the race issues — visibly pushing for the Latino vote, the gay vote, the women’s vote, but not the black vote.

But last weekend, he held a conference call with a collection of black preachers that included his old pastor, Jeremiah Wright. He wanted to talk to them about getting out the vote.

Well, we think it’s newsworthy, anyway. The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, ABC News, CBS News, NBC News … not so much.

If Brown’s report is to be believed, this is the same Rev. Jeremiah Wright who said “God Damn America:

The same Rev. Jeremiah Wright who said five days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our country that “America’s chickens are coming home to roost:

Brown’s column was brought to the attention of conservative Twitter users by Ben Shapiro of Breitbart.com:

Twitter reacted to the news with a combination of horror, wonder, and schadenfreude:

Soooooo, @barackobama is bringing in racist, Jeremiah Wright, to boost his campaign. Yeah, nothing could go wrong there…

I’m starting to wonder if Obama wants to win. Jeremiah Wright? Really? He’ll probably call Bill Ayers next.

@brandondarby Yeah, let Jeremiah Wright talk! Let him talk as much as he wants! Good news for MR !

Five months ago GOP nominee Mitt Romney repudiated efforts by conservatives to bring up Rev. Wright. Will he now reconsider?

Update: Obama campaign advisor Lis Smith took a break from name-calling to announce that Willie Brown’s report is false:

.@buzzfeedandrew That report is false.
